The Marianopolis Demons put up an impressive showing against top division one opponents at the RSEQ collegiate badminton championship last weekend at College Bois-de-Boulogne.
Competing in the Women’s Singles category, Arts & Sciences student Yuyang Chen won a bronze medal and Health Science student Caline Huang took home the silver. This was the second straight year that Caline Huang reached the Women’s Singles final at the provincial championships.
Health Science students Jenny Zhang and BoRui Xhang meanwhile earned a silver medal in the Mixed Doubles category.
In team championship matches, the Demons defeated Les Élans du Cégep Garneau in the first round of before dropping a game to les Dynamiques du Cégep de Sainte-Foy, the top ranked team in the province and eventual tournament winner.
The Demons would go on to beat les Volontaires du Cégep de Sherbrooke before losing to the Les Griffons du Cegep Outaouais in another tightly contested game, ultimately finishing fourth overall in the tournament.
A Near Perfect Season
The Demons secured their spot in the Provincial Championships after an outstanding regular season. The Marianopolis team finished first in its conference, posting an impressive record of 23 wins and only 1 loss.
At the Conference Championship hosted at Marianopolis on April 7, The Demons earned the second-place silver medal in team matches.
The conference championship also saw Demons players excel in individual matchups, with Jenny Zhang and BoRui Zhang winning gold in the Mixed Doubles category, Rebecca Li and Angie Xiong winning silver in the Women’s Doubles category, and Yuyang Chen and Caline Huang winning silver and bronze respectively in the Women’s Single category.
